The Dragon

The Dragon, Guardian of the East, is the most famous of mythical creatures. Originating in China and universally recognised as a symbol of Chinese culture, the Dragon embodies the Yang male energy and is associated with the season spring, the colour blue and the element water. It lives for the most part in oceans, rivers, and lakes, but also has the powers of flight, invisibility and transformation.

With the head of a camel, horns of a deer, eyes of a hare, scales of a carp, paws of a tiger and claws of an eagle, it can ascend into Heaven at will. Its breath transforms into clouds, from which come either rain or fire. Four Dragon Kings are said to rule over the four seas.

The Celestial Dragon rules over the Mansions of the Gods; the Spiritual Dragon presides over rain; the Earth Dragon determines the course of rivers; and the Dragon of Hidden Treasure guards precious metals and stones.

The Dragon, loved and respected as the highest symbol of good luck in the animal kingdom.
